Glossary of Terms Mounted – Image comes ready-to-frame surrounded with a white archival mat. Non-Mounted – Image is shipped as a loose print without any mounting material. Archival – A labor-intensive method of printing photographs that ensures the image will not fade or discolor. Darkroom Printing – The traditional method of creating photographs by exposing light-sensitive photographic paper and then ‘fixing’ that image to the paper through a series of photo-chemical baths. The process is undergone in a darkened room to control exposure of the light-sensitive paper. Hand-Printing – Process of manually printing photographs in a darkroom. With the many steps involved, one photograph can take several days to prepare. Silver Gelatin print – Refers to the light sensitive silver salts used to create certain photographic papers. Silver Gelatin prints have a luminous quality unmatched by any other photographic printing technique.
